PR invite // All thoughts and opinions are, of course, my own.
Spiritfilled who has the independent bottler brand Mythical Beasts invited me for an evening of whisky and beer. To my surprise it was one of my old colleagues who was responsible for the beer, which came from Edinburgh based Walkie Talky Brewing Co. Pairing beer with whisky is an interesting way to discover flavour and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who likes trying new things – and in particular if you like both whisky and beer. My favourite pairing was probably the first one as I really liked the refreshing citrus tones in the Hazy Blonde and thought it went really well with the Ardlair. Ardlair is unpeated whisky from Ardmore Distillery – and I don’t believe I’ve actually tried any before.
However the last pairing of the Irish coffee Stout and the Kilchoman certainly was interesting as well because it’s two fairly powerful flavours paired together. I personally find the smoke with the coffee tones to go very well together and really enjoyed all of the beers as well! This particular Kilchoman was so interesting to try as well because it’s a private bottling from a cask which was purchased at the start of the distillery so now that it is bottled, it is some of the oldest whisky to reach a bottle from Kilchoman Distillery.
