Whisky Lounge Edinburgh 2022

One of the last whisky shows I attended before the pandemic was the Whisky Lounge in Edinburgh so I couldn’t resist buying myself a ticket now that is was back in town!

I bought a 2 hour taster ticket on Itison but wished I wouldn’t gotten a full 4 hour ticket as the time flew by way to quickly and didn’t have enough time to visit all the stalls. This is also due to the fact that I love chatting to people and dislike elbowing my way in crowds for a sample so I’d rather take my time and go to the ones that are less busy.

It felt a little bit smaller this time around, but that might just be to accommodate with social distancing since covid is still circulating. Some of the drams I tried included Jura 14 Rye Finish, Glasgow Distillery Peated, Tenjaku Blended Whisky & Pure Malt, Wolfburn Father’s Day Release, Kavalan Solist Oloroso, Ana Birch Syrup Caramel Liqueur, Cotswolds Reserve and JG Thomson 1972 Blended Grain. The ones that stood out for me was the Jura which had a lovely balance of wood to rye tones, The Cotswolds which I always seem to like and I already know I really like the Wolfburn Langskip (pictured below) and the Glasgow Distillery Peated. The Whisky Lounge is also set in such a lovely location in The Assembly Rooms on George Street and it’s always a pleasure to enjoy a dram underneath these stunning ceilings.

I really love going to whisky shows and have missed it during the pandemic – to meet new people and familiar faces, chat about the brands and those I already recognise and enjoy the atmosphere of fellow enthusiasts – although I haven’t missed how drunk people get towards the end of shows and being force hugged or inappropriately spoken to… So if you are attending any whisky shows, just keep responsible drinking and respectful behaviour in mind towards both ambassadors, fellow guests and the organisers.

I even got the happy surprise to meet some of you that follow along either here on the blog, IG or YT and I absolutely love when you come up and say hi!
