Tamdhu Tasting Lunch at SMWS Queen Street

PR invite // All thoughts and opinions are, of course, my own.

Tamdhu invited me for a friendly tasting lunch at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society on Queen Street.

The menu consisted of torched mackerel fillet with compressed Isle of Wight tomatoes, white gazpacho and basil to start, roast guinea fowl with creamed sweetcorn and bacon, smoked cheese dumpling for mains and raspberry and chamomile framboise, raspberry sorbet for dessert. The food was really nice and I’ll need to remind myself to stop by SMWS Queen Street sometime soon for a lunch to see what they have on their everyday menu. Alongside the food we tried our way through 8 Tamdhu whiskies: The Distinction, 12 year old, 15 year old, 18 year old, the new cask strength, a single cask American oak, a single cask European oak and an upcoming secret sample. Out of this impressive and tasty line up the 15 year old and the American oak single cask were my favourites. They both had a nice balance and I also tend to prefer an American oak influence over European oak as it’s often less spicy and a bit more silky. Tamdhu overall has a lovely core range and I think a lot of people would enjoy Tamdhu, no matter if they are an experienced whisky drinker or someone who’s just getting in to it.
