It’s always a treat to meet up with the Larkfire Team – and if you haven’t read about my trip to Loch Lomond, Islay & Campbeltown with them, then click here straight away!
For Spirit of Speyside they had plenty of events on, but I was happy to join them for a tasting lunch in Aberlour at the recently renovated The Mash Tun.
We had chosen our menu beforehand and I enjoyed a red pepper and tomato soup to start, followed by the Angus Burger and to finish we had a lovely selection of cheeses.
In between courses the team presented the whiskies. Mitch from CopperCairn had brought a lovely ex-bourbon single cask from Glenfiddich, which was my favourite whisky out of the lineup. It had such a lovely balance between cask influence and spirit with lots of fruits, showcasing Glenfiddich in the best of ways. Especially with the addition of a few drops of Larkfire Wild Water. The water just made it open up the fruity tones even further and helped calm down the alcohol heat. To follow we tried an interesting Madeira finished Mannochmore which had such a lovely colour and was very peachy in its flavour. Last but not least we tried a whisky from The Mash Tun’s own independent bottling brand Stalla Duh which was a non age statement and undisclosed distillery Speyside Single Malt which wrapped up the dinner nicely.
