Green Hotel in Tällberg, Sweden

For our Christmas present 2020 my parents gave us an overnight stay in Tällberg, but due to the pandemic we had to delay the trip – but now it was finally going ahead. We stayed at lovely traditional Green Hotel which is located up on the hill with a gorgeous view over the lake Siljan.

The Rooms

Our rooms were located in the main building, further along from the reception and restaurant. They were in the Classic category and had balconies overlooking the lake which got the afternoon sun, where we enjoyed some bubbly and snacks before dinner. The beds were really comfortable and I love the William Morris headboard as it’s one of my favourite designers. The bathroom was elegantly simple and had a bath with overhead shower. The only thing of note is that it got quite warm in the room as the sun shines over the balcony in the afternoon and we couldn’t keep the balcony door open as there were other guests who were very noisy outside.

The 3 Course Dinner

We had also booked the 3 course set dinner menu for the evening.

The menu consisted of:

Carrot and celeriac soup with hand peeled shrimp and flat bread crisps.
Herb-baked cod with white wine sauce, sugar peace and potatoes.
White chocolate mousse with mint and marinated strawberries.

It was a lovely dinner and the starter was really outstanding and served from a traditional old copper teapot. And there’s also something magical about Swedish fresh potatoes in the summer and along with the white wine sauce I probably could’ve just eaten a bowl of it by myself… We also decided to opt for the wine package paired with each course. When editing my photos I just realised I forgot to take a photo of the wine along with the main, but there were two white wines and a sweet wine included. The white wine along with the starter was a South African Bukettraube. It was fairly sweet but matched the sweetness in the soup in a lovely way. The wine along with the main was more dry, but probably had the least amount of character for my personal flavour preference. To finish there was a sweet sparkling sweet wine from Fabio Perrone. This went really well with the white chocolate mousse, adding additional berry flavours along with the strawberries in the dessert.

The Breakfast

The Breakfast at Green Hotel was so lovely. There were plenty of options: from porridge, fresh bread, granola and eggs to local delicacies like crisp bread, gustavskorv and lingonberries. I love the fact they have incorporated a feeling of the local area in everything they do, including the breakfast and it made it so much more enjoyable. There were also teas from Arvid Nordqvist, a brand I frequently buy as their blueberry black tea is so nice. I’d also highly recommend trying bread or crisp bread with lingonberries and cheese as it’s one of my favourite breakfast treats!

You have the breakfast in the restaurant and there’s plenty tables by the window so you can admire the lake whilst eating.

Tällberg

I will write a little guide about what to see and do in Tällberg soon so watch this space.

I would definitely recommend staying at Green Hotel, especially if you are adding the dinner. There’s also an outdoor pool and spa area inside but we didn’t have enough time to explore them properly. Visiting Tällberg is a must if you are in the area or would like to experience a piece of old-fashioned traditional Sweden, where a lot of our cultural traditions originate from.
