Distillery Visit: Aberlour Distillery

We were renting a little AirBNB called The Falls Cottage close to Glenlivet Distillery on our summer getaway to Speyside. During the trip we visited several distilleries, including The Glenallachie Distillery, Glenfiddich Distillery and also The Speyside Cooperage.

Considering I missed out on Aberlour Distillery on my first visit to Speyside last year, when I instead ended up in the hospital with appendicitis, I was really keen to go this time around!

The Aberlour Distillery Tour

Our tour was with the brilliant tour guide Emma. She was one of the best tour guides I’ve ever came across. Lots of knowledge and a relaxed mindset about how whisky is for everyone and can be enjoyed however one sees fit.

The tour itself is very interesting and you get to see the various parts of production and end with a really good tasting at the end.

The tasting room was really pretty and I loved the glasses that hanged off the branches in the ceiling (see below). This tasting was definitely one of the best ones I’ve came across on a distillery tour. You get to try new make (which is always fun and interesting) as well as some core range expressions and distillery only releases.

It’s a scenic distillery nestled in the outskirts of Aberlour with a short walking distance from the town.

If you’ve read my previous blog pieces about distillery visits then you already know how much I adore a dunnage warehouse. At Aberlour you do get to walk in to a warehouse but the casks are all behind glass, which takes away a wee bit from the experience for me. However it really was an amazing tour!

Bonus tip:

After the tour we also went for a wee walk to the Lynn Falls, that are located just behind the distillery. Don’t miss this if you have some time to spare! The walk to the waterfall is not very long but be careful since the path can be very slippery, especially if it’s been raining.

My favourite Aberlour is probably the 16 year old , or potentially the sherry bomb A’Bunadh
