Colour Analysis in Edinburgh with Yellow Soul Studio

colour analysis in edinburgh

I’ve been curious about doing a Colour Analysis for ages. So I was so delighted when Elena from Yellow Soul Studio here in Edinburgh reached out to ask if I’d be interested to do one with her!

A colour analysis is a tool where you check a couple of different variables to figure out what your ‘season’ are and therefore what colours suit you. Based on your natural colours, you will end up being assigned one of twelve colour seasons, ranging from winter, spring, summer and autumn and also if you are warm, cool, bright, muted, light or dark.

My twelve seasons colour analysis

We started my colour analysis with a personality test where I scored the highest for the categories representing spring and summer – sanguine and phlegmatic. Then we went through fabric drapings to go through the different seasons, high vs low contrast and metals. It gradually became clearer that I was leaning toward a summer palette as I have a cool undertone where silver works better than gold, low contrast is better than high and lighter colours make my eyes pop and flatters my face more than darker ones.

So my season is a light summer.

Some things that might be good ahead of your colour analysis is that you can’t wear any make up or tan for your appointment. This is because the whole idea of a colour analysis is to find your season based on your natural colours.

The private colour analysis appointment is about 1.5-2 hours but Elena also does different versions of it for groups. This would be a lovely activity for a birthday or hen do, where each person gets a mini-analysis.

The colour analysis is not meant for you to throw away everything in your wardrobe that is not in line with your result and Elena does a great job at explaining how to incorporate ‘your colours’ into your wardrobe and also that the colours you choose represents your style and personality. For me, even though silver might suit me naturally better, I’ll always be a gold jewellery girlie. Black might also be a colour that is slightly too dark for me, but I do love a sleek black outfit now and then. However, I might start focusing on incorporating more greys into my winter style as that’s a colour which is supposed to work well for me. So knowing your season can be super helpful when purchasing or making statement pieces and when shopping for basics for example, but it doesn’t have to mean that you can never wear colours outwith your palette.

You also get a little pamphlet with your suggested colours to take home, which I thought was a lovely idea.

I definitely recommend a colour analysis with Elena at Yellow Soul Studio if you are curious to find out more about the colours that suit you naturally!
