Collectors Victory Hotel in Old Town Stockholm

Tucked in to my favourite part of Stockholm – the old town – you will find the boutique Victory Hotel which is part of the Collectors Hotels.

The hotel is family owned and as the father of the family, Gunnar, is a keen antique collector the hotels have become almost like a museum for these antiques, giving them such a unique charm. This is a brilliant hotel for those who like their hotel stay to be a bit more of an experience rather than just a place to sleep.

The Rooms

Each room has its individual design and is named after a Swedish sea captain. We stayed in a Deluxe Double Room called Alfred Johnsson. The bed was really comfortable and I wish we would’ve stayed even longer so that we could have enjoyed the room even more. There was also a little sofa and an armchair along with a desk in the room. The bathroom had a bath with jacuzzi effect decorated with two antique statues of a woman and a duck. On the table was a complimentary little bottle of Kopke ruby port wine waiting along with chocolate to make up a perfect little nightcap. Little things like these just make you feel even more taken care of and puts a luxurious edge to the whole experience.

We opened the windows to let in fresh air and in spite of being located on Lilla Nygatan, where cars can drive past, it wasn’t very noisy throughout the night, with the exception of some reversing beeps from delivery cars in the morning.

The Breakfast

The breakfast at Victory is enjoyed downstairs in the so called Leijontornet (The Lion Tower). This was a part of the defence wall for Stockholm during the 1300’s and you can see what is now the only ruin left from the old city wall. There was a good variety on offer. Lovely teas from Life by Follis – I’d recommend the Coconut Pineapple! – fresh bread, cereal, American pancakes, fruit juice, eggs fruits, bacon, meatballs (don’t miss these) and some sweet treats. And the historic, yet cosy environment makes for the perfect setting to start a day on the town.

Old Town Stockholm

Like I mentioned earlier, the Old Town is my favourite part of Stockholm and I would recommend anyone who is visiting the city for the first time to stay here. It’s in a central location only 13 minutes walk from the train station. It also has an underground station so it’s easy to get around and you can also take the ferry (which is part of the public transport) over to Djurgården where you’ll find plenty of museums. I’d recommend Nordiska Museet (The Nordic Museum) and Vasamuseet where you can see the Vasa ship that sunk in 1628!

Things I’d also recommend is enjoying a fika at Café Kaffekoppen in a historic environment. Ice cream can be found at Café Kakbrinken or StikkiNikki. If you are looking for afternoon tea then check out Lady Hamilton, the sister hotel to Victory, or Chaikana. You also have to explore all the little fascinating narrow alleyways. Also look out for old cannonballs that have stuck to the facade of the buildings. If you are walking around then go to the St George and the Dragon to see the replica of the wooden statue that sits within Storkyrkan. The Royal Palace is also located in Old Town so it’s the perfect opportunity for a tour. Or just hang around outside and watch the change of guards.

The hotel also has a spa area but unfortunately we did not have time to explore that this time around. But hopefully we will be back!
