Bunnahabhain – hard to say, easy to love?

AD Bunnahabhain // All thoughts and opinions are, of course, my own.

I’m thrilled to once again work with Bunnahabhain – and this time talk more about one of my favourite 12 Year old whiskies!

Bunnahabhain has launched a campaign called ‘hard to say, easy to love. Even though it’s not always straightforward to pronounce words from Scots Gaelic, like Bunnahabhain, the main thing is whether or not you enjoy what is in your whisky glass, no matter how you say the distillery name. I’m going to be asking some of my friends and family how they pronounce Bunnahabhain and also offer them a dram of the Bunnahabahain 12 Year Old to see what they think. So follow along on my Instagram to see more as more will be coming soon.

But first, I’ll be telling you more about what I think about this whisky, here below!

Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old

This really is one of my favourite 12 Year Old scotch whiskies. For those of you not familiar with Bunnahabhain yet, this is a distillery on the island of Islay. They produce primarily unpeated single malt, which makes them different from the majority of the other distilleries on the island. Bunnahabhain also uses a lot of sherry casks for their maturation, which suits the spirit well.

It’s smooth, but full of flavour. The whisky has been matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks for over 12 years and is bottled at 46.3% ABV.

On the nose I get vanilla fudge, green fruits and sweet floral notes. The palate has both a sweet and salty character, but the sweetness stands out the most. There is a fruitiness which reminds me of grapes and the finish lingers with the memory of elegant oak.

If you are keen to pick up a bottle for yourself, or perhaps for a friend or family member then you can find it here!
