Art pieces that I want for my walls

2021 feels like the year that I’ll learn more about certain subjects that intrigue me. Historical clothing, fabrics and art are things I daily think about right now so I spend a lot of time dreaming over beautiful prints that I can’t wait to hang on my walls. A whole walls of paintings would be ideal, with antique frames and delicate detail. It would be a organised chaos of styles, eras and themes in a romantic mix that would mirror my mind.

So I thought I’d share some of the prints I’ve been keeping my eye on lately.

Monarch of the Glen by Sir Edwin Landseer

This lovely painting I first discovered at my old workplace and I think it’s majestic and beautiful. The colours also feel so misty and mysterious.

Wanderer above the sea of fog by Caspar Friedrich

Faceless portraits are so magical to me. The emotions and feelings you can portray from a person without seeing their face is incredible and this landscape feels adventurous.

The Four Seasons by Alphonse Mucha

These colours are so vibrant but in an elegant way and I love the way the seasons have been portrayed – each with their own feel.

The Swing by Jean-Honoré Fragonard

This is definitely a favourite of mine! It’s so alive and just look at those nuances of green… * happy sigh*

Départ pour le Sabbat by Albert Joseph Penot

This one makes me want to go out in to the woods and collect herbs to cook up a witchy brew. There is definitely a wee cottage witch living with in me…

Pimpernel by William Morris

The dreamiest of wallpapers but also probably way over what I’d like to pay for wallpaper, so maybe just a framed print would do nicely?

In the Midst of the Gloomy Thick Wood by Kay Nielsen

A fairytale-esque piece of art. I’ve always liked the look of dark forest and I feel like it even has a Scandinavian touch to it as it is fairly similar to the forests depicted by John Bauer.

After the Ball by Ramon Casas

I just love her expression and long for the days when you can come home after an evening or a ball with tired feet. Her appearance also reminds me a bit of Eloise in the Netflix tv-series Bridgerton – just me..?

The Bookworm by Carl Spitzweg

As a bookworm myself this pairing speaks straight to my soul. This makes me think of the many times my arms have been aching from carrying around books for hours in the library to carefully choose the big pile of books that I’ll borrow and take home.

She Kissed The Bear On The Nose by John Bauer

I used to have a John Bauer troll print on my walls when I was a child and I like the fairytale aesthetic of it. I’m torn between this one and the one with the princess and the elk.

Light in the Forest by Albert Bierstadt

There’s something about deer that just make an image feel so majestic and calm. The detail in this artwork is just stunning as well.

La Belle Dame Sans Merci by Sir Frank Dicksee

Another one with marvellous colours and details that makes me think of fairytales and romance.
