Lunch at Vault City Brewing Porty Vault Taproom

When my friend Alexandra came all the way from Sweden to visit us in Edinburgh, I took the opportunity to book a lunch at the Porty Vault. The Porty Vault is a taproom by Vault City Brewing which highlights their wide range of sour beers and some guest brands as well.

I asked for a tasting flight, and chose a Would I Lychee You? (Lychee & Guava), a Strawberry Sundae and a Lychee Ginger, With Lemongrass and Coconut Session Sour. The strawberry one was probably my favourite but I really liked the lychee & guava as well. They were both not too sweet, with good flavour and a good level of acidity, without being too sour. Picking the tasting flight is just such a good option for trying a variety – especially since Vault City Brewing have so many different options, from flavours of deep fried mars bar and love hearts to chocolate chip waffles and overnight oats. The staff were also really friendly and helpful with recommendations.

They also have food from their smokehouse as well. I chose the Pulled Pork Mac’N’Cheese which was really good. Perfectly creamy sauce and not overcooked pasta – and the pulled pork was just such a treat. It was served with a California Gold sauce, which I believe was mustard based – and it all felt quite Southern American in a homely comfort food way.

The Porty Vault also have a little fridge shop with plenty of options where you can stock up for the home bar or drink straight away with your meal for a small corkage fee.

I believe Vault City Brewing will also be one of the attending brands for The Mash Up Festival this year, so really looking forward to that and maybe having the opportunity to sample some more beers!
