STIR x Johnnie Walker Princes Street

PR invite // All thoughts and opinions are, of course, my own.

Johnnie Walker Princes Street has teamed up with James & Maria Close from 2 Michelin star restaurant Raby Hunt and launched STIR which combines delicious dishes with innovative cocktails in a tasting menu for all senses.

You can find all the experiences and tickets here.

There a few different versions you can try out with the main one being the Four Corners Pairing where each of the four corner whiskies: Clynelish, Glenkinchie, Caol Ila and Cardhu feature and have inspired each pairing. There’s also the Johnnie Walker Seasonal Pairing and the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Pairing that you can add on as an upgrade to your experience.

For the event we tried a variety of different pairings and the standouts for me were the Beef Tartare with Hedgerow Aquavit (Glenkinchie), the Aquachile Oyster with Coastline Amaro (Clynelish) and a hand rolled sushi bite with Blue Label which was a wee preview of something the chefs have planned for future menus! Really outstanding food which feels so fresh and interesting. A celebration of good produce and curious flavours. The Apple Cremeux was also a treat for both the eyes and the palate as it looks just as good as it tastes.

I’ve had the pleasure of eating at Johnnie Walker Princes Street before and the food holds a really high quality here – if you’ve read the blog before you know I’m a big fan of the tartare starter in particular – and these dishes feel right at home at JWPS whilst also bringing something new and explorative. The STIR experience takes place in The Explorers’ Bothy on the top floor and it’s a gorgeous space for both drinks and food. If you fancy seeing the famous view you can also nip across to the 1820 bar, but a seat by the window in the The Explorers’ Bothy doesn’t disappoint with its view either.

If you are a fan of flavour and good food this an an experience you don’t want to miss. Currently the dates only stretch until the middle of August so don’t miss it whilst it’s available!
