Glengoyne Distillery is running their Silent Season over the summer when production stops and it’s possible to to some work on the production areas. During this time it is not possible for visitors to see the distillery itself, so they have just launched their Silent Season Experiences which will be available 28th June until 10th August. I was invited to see what these experiences are like so let me tell you about it all!
The Teapot Tour & Tasting takes you on a little wander across the distillery grounds where you learn more about the history of the brand and tales from its past. This time of year the surroundings are so lush and green that’s it’s just a pleasure to walk around outside. Robert, who was our guide for the experience, pointed out plenty of interesting things around us and had an incredible knowledge of the brand and the history of whisky.
As part of the tour we also enjoyed a tutored tasting with Robert who brought out the 12 Year Old and the 21 Year Old. The 12 Year Old has some lovely tropical notes and it’s fascinating to be able to compare it side by side to the 21 Year Old which has that same distillery character but obviously more age. Both very easy to enjoy and I could imagine even those who are not that used to drinking whisky could find themselves liking a dram of Glengoyne.
We ended the tour by trying the new Batch 9 Teapot Dram in the snug tasting room by the shop. I won’t spoil the tale of the Teapot Dram itself, as it’s a nice one to hear from the Glengoyne Team, but it’s one of those quirky tales from the past which just make me smile.
Glengoyne are also offering other experiences during their Silent Season like the Glenside Tour, two different Tasting Experiences and The Sample Room Experience where you get to put on your (imaginary) Malt Master hat and make your own unique bottle of Glengoyne.
It’s also well worth having a look around the shop, which sits in one of the old dunnage warehouses as there’s a variety of Glengoyne available, but also other brands under the Ian Macleod ownership like Edinburgh Gin and Langs Rum. Keep an eye out for the little angel whisky which is flying away in here as well.
