Dinner & Stay at Meldrum House Country Hotel

PR invite // All thoughts and opinions are, of course, my own.

I was invited up to Meldrum House in Aberdeenshire to stay the night and experience their “Say Cheese” dinner which certainly was quite the treat for a cheese lover like me!

Meldrum House Country Hotel

Meldrum House is a country hotel and golf course just outside Oldmeldrum near Inverurie and not too far away from Aberdeen either. For whisky enthusiasts it’s a great stay as you have Glen Garioch right nearby, about a 20 minute walk away, and the Speyside area within an hours reach. It’s of course also a lovely place for golfers, but also those who just want to escape to the countryside and admire a historic building, enjoy a luxurious stay and indulge in delicious food.

The hotel offers fine dining in their Pineapple Grill & Seafood Restaurant, more casual food in the 1826 Cave Bar (which also is a lovely whisky bar well worth a visit!) and the highlight of our stay was the dinner in the Titan Bar, which I’ve written more about here below. The Domes were a mid-pandemic idea to make sure groups could enjoy their own little “bubbles” when going for dinner, events or afternoon tea and ended up being such a success that they’ve stayed. I would absolutely love to come back and hire out one of the dome for a private lunch or dinner as it’s such a nice experience to sit outside, and yet be comfortable no matter the temperature of weather.

I was also told by a lot of people that the Afternoon Tea is supposed to be really good, so definitely have to come back far that at some point!

The Room

We were staying in a corner room in the newer building behind/connecting to the Manor House which was really spacious and bright with a comfortable big bed and lovely view toward the golf course. The bathroom had a shower with body wash, shampoo and conditioner and there were also tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Upon arrival there was a wee platter of two macarons waiting in the room with our itinerary for the day and a couple of minutes after I’d arrived in my room, I heard a knock on the door and room service delivered some glasses of bubbly as a welcome drink. The service was lovely through out the whole stay and there was even glencairns with cream liqueur & cookies waiting on the room when we got back after dinner. They had also turned down the room and pulled the curtains, folded over the duvet and placed our slippers by the bed. It’s always such a happy surprise when there’s a turndown service.

I set my alarm for 04.45 so I didn’t miss the sunrise, and I’m happy I got a quick little shot before I headed back to bed.

Dinner at the Titan Bar

Meldrum House is hosting a special offer called “Say Cheese” between 6th February and 7th May to include wine flight and cheese in one of the dome, dinner and overnight stay – pretty much everything you need for a lovely experience at Meldrum House. I’d definitely recommend keeping an eye on the offers when you’re booking to make the most of the experience.

To preview the event, we were treated to a cheese-focused menu in the largest dome called the Titan Bar. Alongside the 6 course meal there were also some excellent wine pairings from Corney & Barrow where the Portuguese red and Sauternes really stood out for me.

My favourite courses were the grilled North Sea lobster with asparagus, bisque and Isle of Mull wafer as well as the loin & slow booked shoulder of lamb with garden peas and a Strathdon Blue sauce.

It was also so lovely to meet and speak to the other guests as there were a mix of people from the local area as well as other parts of Scotland. It’s always so fun to meet other people and hear their recommendations or tips for Scotland travel.

Just sitting in the dome was such a lovely experience and I wish more places did something like this. But oh well, I guess I’ll just need to come back… !

The Breakfast

The breakfast the following morning was served in the Pineapple Grill & Seafood restaurant. There were a little buffet table with fruits, pastries and juice whilst the main breakfast items were ordered off a menu. I had granola, which was lovely but when I saw (and tasted) Cody French toast I really wished I had opted for this as well because it was really delicious. The hash brows were also really good so would recommend!
