Greek Wine Tasting at Heron

PR invite // All thoughts and opinions are, of course, my own.

Santorini Showcase

Wine Event Scotland was hosting an evening alongside Wines of Santorini showcasing greek wine at Heron down in Leith. There were six different stands and all the wine was presented blindly. All white wines from the Santorini area, and some sweet wines as well, that were focusing on the grape variety Assyrtiko. I was so surprised by the sweet wines that were really delicious and well rounded and there were some really lovely oak ages ones that really stood out to me. I’m really excited about the upcoming Greek Wine Fair where there will be even more wine makers present with their wines. I even have a discount code for you further down in case you are interested in tickets as well.

During the evening Sofia Pepera – an expert in greek wine – did a little presentation on Santorini, greek wines and the grape varieties. I learned that Assyrtiko is a good grape that retains a high acidity even with higher sugar levels which is why the sweet wines feel so fresh ad nicely balanced.

Alongside the wines Heron was serving some lovely canapés and put out charcuteries and their lovely sourdough and miso butter. I definitely have to come back to Heron and try their tasting menu someday. The crab and apple canapé was outstanding, which I think I also spotted on the current tasting menu!

Upcoming wine events with Wine Events Scotland

Diana has some really exciting upcoming events that I’ll be attending; the first is a masterclass with Maximilian Riedel on the 27th June where you get a sit down tasting focusing on displaying the Veloce Range glasses and how the glassware affects your tasting experience. How does it taste in the correct glasses versus how it tastes in the wrong glass. Maximilian hasn’t been to Scotland in 11 years so it’s really a brilliant opportunity to learn from this 11th generation of the Riedel family. Everyone attending will also be given a set of four of the Veloce Range Riedel glasses to take home, which is worth £125 and makes the value for the ticket quite amazing as they start from £70. You can find tickets here.

The following the there’s also a Greek Wine Fair the following day on the 28th June at the Assembly Rooms. I also have a discount code for you below if you are interested in tickets so make sure to check that out. There will be 32 wineries displaying their wines at the fair and I’ll be very excited to try more oaked whites and sweet wines, judging by the things we tried during the preview event.

DISCOUNT CODE

Wine Events Scotland has been kind enough to offer me a discount code for you all if you fancy going along to the Greek Wine Fair on the 28th. With the code: WESGREECESWG#20 you get 20% off and you can find tickets here.
