Glen Scotia invited us for a preview night ahead of the Campbeltown Festival which is taking place 23rd and 24th of May – and yours truly is going for the first time! Maybe I’ll see you there?
We were treated to some delicious Harbour Highballs, a sensory tasting experience hosted by Becky Passing and Iain McAlister and even a wee preview of the music project that Neil Ridley has been involved in and which will be officially launched at the festival.
I’ve been a fan of Glen Scotia for a long time as it used to be a tour guide favourite back in my early whisky days at the job I had then. Some of you might remember that I visited Glen Scotia back in November with the Larkfire Team and I’ve had such a lovely experience with the team, that’s it’s now just such a bonus that the spirit is as good as it is.
The Scotsman Picturehouse is a lovely cinema room with super comfy seats and this is where our tasting of this years festival release as well as the other events took place. I also ran into some of my old colleagues from The Scotch Whisky Experience, which is such a fun surprise.
This years festival release is a peated 11 year old, which has been finished 12 months in an ex-white port cask after its initial maturation in ex-bourbon. It’s one of my favourite peated expressions from Glen Scotia as I usually prefer their unpeated releases but this one had such a lovely balance of sweetness, soft smoke, balanced bitterness and that seaside saltiness that’s quite characteristic for this distillery.
