Edinburgh Whisky has launched their first three expressions in The Discovery Collection – one Highland single malt, one Speyside single malt and one Islay single malt. The bottles all have a tall black design with a tartan pattern on top of the black colour. They’re all bottled at 46.3% and on the back of the bottle there’s a QR code where you can find out what distillery each whisky is from. These three initial releases are from Speyside Distillery, Tomatin and Bunnahabhain.
The 9 year old Islay was my favourite of the evening as it was such a pleasant dram to enjoy over time with its mix of bonfire smoke, fresh fruits and soft sweetness. The Speyside also showcased a fruitiness but was more robust than I would’ve expected and with a touch of youthful grassiness whilst the Highlands single malt had more of a tropical candy character.
We also enjoyed a Whisky Ginger, made with the Highland whisky, during the evening and it was just a great reminder of how good this highball is. A great refreshing whisky tipple for the upcoming spring and summer season!
