Trying the new menu at Civerinos

I got the opportunity to along to Civerinos at Hunter Square here in Edinburgh to try their new menu – and I can’t tell you how excited I was as I’ve heard such good things!

I’ve only tried pizza from Civerinos before when I was staying at House of Gods around the corner, and wasn’t aware they they offer other types of Italian food as well. The prices are very reasonable and the venue has a nice atmosphere without being too loud and the staff is really friendly and service-minded. The menu offers clear markings of which dishes contain nuts and which are suitable for vegetarians or vegans.

I’ve listed some of the food we tried and that I would recommend here below and will definitely be back to try some of the other items on their menu as it’s a tough choice between all the goodies you’ll find amongst the starters, pastas, salads, cocktails and pizzas. The problem is that the Gorgonzola & Walnut Gnocchi was SO GOOD that I’m not sure I’ll be able to resist it next time… I’ll even go so far as to say that this is the best Italian food I’ve had in Edinburgh so far. You know it’s good when the sugo (tomato sauce) is delicious enough that I could happily drink it on its own, haha.

My Civerinos Recommendations

GORGONZOLA & WALNUT GNOCCHI

Creamy gorgonzola sauce with crushed walnuts, tomatoes & sauteed spinach.

POLPETTE

Pork and beef meatballs in the famous sugo, served with focaccia then finished with parmesan and parsley.

GARLIC MUSHROOMS WITH FOCACCIA

Sauteed mushrooms in a creamy garlic & white wine sauce served with focaccia.

GARLIC CRUST BITES

Soft in the middle with a nice crust (perfect for dipping in sugo if you have some from the polpette for example)

PESTO & PROSCIUTTO

Sugo, mozzarella, pesto, prosciutto, cherry tomatoes finished with basil, parmesan & balsamic glaze.
