Just before Christmas, when I was dreaming about being able to visit restaurants and cafés again, I saw a voucher on Itison for a Morning Tea at The Dome. I booked it straight away and gave it to Mr C as a Christmas gift, not expecting it would take us this long until we were able to go. So this morning at 10.15 we walked through the doors at The Dome and took our seats.
Morning Tea at The Dome
The Dome is such a stunning building here in Edinburgh. I’d definitely recommend going if you have a chance. They offer cocktails and afternoon teas as well as an a la carte menu. If you are planning on going, I would book in advance, as there’s sometimes a massive queue outside.
The Morning Tea can only be booked through Itison and I bought a Morning Tea for two which cost £26. You can also choose to get it with a glass of Prosecco or Champagne. It is served in The Club Room – a cosy library-esque room with wooden panels and mirrors along the tall walls. When we first arrived we were greeted by the service-minded staff who showed us to our table. We then got to scan the Itison voucher before they took our tea and coffee orders. The orange juice was also quickly poured – which was a very welcome and cooling drink – considering it was absolutely roasting outside and we didn’t have to wait long until our tiered stands with the food arrived either.
Included is:
two types of morning rolls – one with bacon and one with sausages
a pancake each with butter and jam
muffins (ours was blueberry, not sure if it always is the same flavour)
danish pastries
yoghurt with a berry compote
tea or coffee
orange juice
I was slightly worried that some of the foods would be dry, as I remember the scones being a touch dry the last time I was at The Dome for an afternoon tea. But I was pleasantly surprised. The sausage rolls were amazing – such a lovely flavour! The muffins were also really good and to my surprise, so were the pancakes. I generally don’t like any pancakes that aren’t crêpe style pancakes. But these were not dry at all so I actually enjoyed them. The only thing that perhaps was a touch on the dry side was the Danish pastries, but I was already getting quite full so I didn’t mind that too much. There’s definitely enough food to fill you up! I think this is probably covered both my breakfast and lunch for today!
The service was also really good and the atmosphere is so enjoyable. There’s background music playing and the room is quite dimly lit so perfect for a relaxing Morning Tea. Next time I’ll definitely come back for some cocktails – the elderflower Mojito sounds exactly like something I’d like. And I’ll probably be back for an Afternoon tea at some point too…
A wee bonus is how stunning and clean the bathrooms are.
I’d definitely recommend going for a Morning Tea at The Dome if you want a luxurious and relaxing morning in a stunning setting with good company!
